To verify that cells that give off red signals are dead or dying and cannot repair and regrow, a previous study in our department compared the ratios of Live/Dead cells from the viability assay of another Gram positive oral bacteria (Limosilactobacillus reuteri) with culture of samples on agar and calculation of CFU (96). The ratio was found to be consistent, and the BacLight TM LIVE/DEAD® was thereby shown to be a reliable tool for assessing the ratio of viable bacterial cells in a population.…”
