Abstract: Models for multiphysics problems often involve significant nonlinearities. When fracture contact mechanics are incorporated, discontinuous derivatives arise at the interfaces between open and closed fractures, or between sliding and sticking fractures. The resulting system of equations is highly challenging to solve.
