Line Shape Variability in a Sample of AGN with Broad Lines

Abstract: The spectral variability of active galactic nuclei (AGN) is one of their key features that enables us to study in more details the structure of AGN emitting regions. Especially, the broad line profiles, that vary both in flux and shape, give us invaluable information about the kinematics and geometry of the broad line region (BLR) where these lines are originating from.We give here a comparative review of the line shape variability in a sample of five type 1 AGN, those with broad emission lines in their spectr… Show more

“…Nearby AGN are currently monitored by several groups (e.g., Ilić et al, 2015;Barth et al, 2015;Fausnaugh et al, 2016;Bentz et al, 2016a,b;Du et al, 2016a). SDSS quasar sample has been recently monitored for six months within the frame of the SDSS-RM project (Shen et al, 2016) which allowed to provide preliminary estimate of nine Hβ langs and six Mg II lags for objects with redshifts above 0.3, and this program is being extended now, covering 849 sources in total, with cadence of 12 epochs per year.…”

“…Gas clouds located in the BLR rotate around the black hole at velocities up to a few 10000 km s −1 . Variations of both the overall flux and the shape of the broad emission lines (BEL) have been reported (e.g., Sulentic et al 2000;Shapovalova et al 2010;Ilić et al 2015). In all the publications mentioned above BELs at optical wavelengths were used, but here we have used infrared spectra.…”
