Linear sweep voltammetry with non-triangular waveforms: New opportunities in electroanalysis

Abstract: The voltammetry of two simultaneous electrochemically reversible reactions with different formal potentials is investigated at a macroelectrode for a conventional linear potential waveform and a herein newly proposed semi-circular potential waveform, which, at the midpoint of the potential window shows an instantaneous infinite scan rate and relatively very slow scan rates in other areas of the wave. We show that the method increases the sensitivity of detection of individual species by greatly amplifying the … Show more

“…This unique feature amplifies both faradic current and nonfaradic current at midpoint and attenuate them outside of midpoint. Compton group proposed that the semi-circular potential sweep voltammetry can be applied to the precise determination of formal potential from LSV [4] and the determination of low concentration analyte [5].…”

“…On the other hand, the electroanalytical studies have focused the quantitative drug analyses, yielding sensitivity in µmol L -1 ranges, whereas, there are only a few attempts in identification assays without the use of chemically modified electrodes (CME) [7][8][9][10]. Despite the employment of CMEs, voltammetry can display different analytical signals that distinguish species, that might be useful for identification purposes and deserves investigation [11].…”
