Marslen-Wilson (1982), Tomlin (1987) i Fox (1987b) su pokazali, iako su svi koristili različite metode, da je granica pasusa mjesto koje označava da je vrijeme da govorno lice ponovo upotrijebi potpunu imensku frazu čak i kad je referent nedavno pomenut.
