Linking Food and Resource Access to Medical Care Access in Maputo, Mozambique

Abstract: Background: Rapid urbanization coupled with evolving threats from both communicable and non-communicable diseases underscore the vulnerability of urban healthcare systems. “…McCordic (2016) first established a predictive relationship between infrastructure access and household food access in a study of Maputo. Subsequent studies have also indicated that access to public resources (e.g., water, electricity, medical care) is predictive of household food insecurity [30][31][32]. That said, these studies established this relationship by focusing almost exclusively on measures of food access, begging the question of whether this relationship would exist if a more multidimensional measure of food security were used.…”

“…The selection of indicators not only aligns with the overall objectives of the SDGs but also resonates with the characteristics of the southern hilly regions in China while also being inspired by the existing literature [25][26][27]. During the selection process, we focused on various aspects such as economic conditions [28], food security [29], medical resources [30], educational resources [31], water resource management [32], clean energy usage, economic growth, industrial innovation, urban sustainable development, climate action, and ecosystem health [28,32,33]. Through these processes, we have constructed a representative and locally distinctive SDG evaluation index system.…”

“…With the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI), intelligent products with anthropomorphic features are increasingly widely used in wise information technology in medical (WITMED) and household healthcare systems [1]. WITMED, as a new medical model that improves quality and efficiency, brings obvious benefits to both users and the medical industry, and many household healthcare systems have emerged as a result [2]. However, there are still some issues that need to be addressed in the current user experience process, such as users' mixed sentiments and attitudes towards anthropomorphic design [3].…”
