“…Monazite and zircon ages of 0.63-0.47 Ga imply a long metamorphic history (Braun and Bröker, 2004;Ghosh et al, 2004;Braun and Appel, 2006;Taylor et al, 2014). Ages > 600 Ma are enigmatic, but combined U-Pb and trace-element data constrain the high-T event between prograde garnet growth at 0.59-0.57 Ga and melt crystallisation at 0.54-0.51 Ga, followed by a regional hydrothermal overprint at 0.50-0.49 Ga (Harley and Nandakumar, 2014;Taylor et al, 2014Shazia et al, 2015).…”

“…Santosh et al (2003) reported zircon cores from various ortho-and para-gneisses in the Madurai block with U-Th-Pb ages of 1700 Ma mantled by successive rims at 820 and 580 Ma. Shazia et al (2015) identified similarly aged monazite cores,~1700 Ma, from the Kodaikanal region. Santosh et al (2006) reported peak metamorphic monazite EPMA ages in the range of~550-520 Ma from the Spr-bearing granulites of Ganguvarpatti and the southern Palghat-Cauvery shear zone, which were interpreted as the timing of peak UHT metamorphism.…”

“…Goncalves et al (2004) reported monazite U-Th-Pb ages from the Spr-Qz granulites of Northcentral Madagascar. Although the authors interpreted Archean ages from monazite cores as dating the peak metamorphic event, recent studies clearly show that monazite can also preserve detrital cores (e.g., Shazia et al 2015). Thus, the major age peaks of 788-732 Ma and~577 Ma can be reinterpreted as the detrital core and peak UHT metamorphism.…”
