Lipid Levels in Serum, Liver and Aorta of the Vervet Monkey

Abstract: Free and esterified cholesterol, triglycerides and phos pholipids were determined in serum, liver and aorta of male and female vervet monkeys (Cercopithecus aethiops pygerethrus). Generally, lipids were higher in tissues from female monkeys; female liver triglycerides and all female aorta lipids were significantly higher. The fatty acid spectra of cholesteryl esters, triglycerides and phospholipids were determined.
