Lipid-Lowering Effects of Dietary Fiber.

Abstract: Soluble dietary fibers have been shown to reduce total plasma cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol, the two important risk factors for coronary heart disease. Although the mechanism of SDF to decrease cholesterol in rats fed a high cholesterol diet has not been clarified exactly, several factors are considered to be involved in such a mechanism (6,7,17).
