“…Chappell et al (2002) also reported that plasma levels of ascorbic acid in healthy pregnant women were stable over the gestation. We performed measurements for the serum vitamins during the second trimester (24-28 gestational weeks), because it was suggested that the evaluation for the antioxidant vitamin concentrations in mid-term pregnancy is important as the lipid peroxidation products are known to attain the highest level in the second trimester (Uotila et al, 1991).
