Lipidomic Analysis of Clostridium cadaveris and Clostridium fallax

Abstract: The lipidomes of Clostridium fallax and Clostridium cadaveris were studied using thin-layer chromatography (TLC) and normal phase liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry (NPLC/MS). Both species contain diradylglycerol (DRG), monohexosyldiradylglycerol (MHDRG), monohexosyl monoacylglycerol (MHMAG), phosphatidylglycerol (PtdGro), and phosphatidylethanolamine (PtdEtn). DRG, MHDRG, PtdEtn, and PtdGro are present in both diacyl and alk-1-enyl acyl (plasmalogen) forms. Both species contain cardiolipin (Ptd2Gro), whi… Show more

“…The unique modified glycerolipids of Gram-positive bacteria are dihexosyl DGs (DHDGs) serving as precursors of membrane lipoteichoic acids (LTA) [22,[57][58][59][60][61]. We monitored these unique glycolipids in all Gram-positive bacteria, as well as lipoteichoic acid precursor (LTAP) 30:4 (Figure 3; Supplementary Tables).…”

“…Water-insoluble polysaccharides, consumed as prebiotics, isolated from the sclerotium of Poria cocos , can increase butyrate production by increasing the abundance of Lachnospiraceae, Clostridium XIV A and IV , thereby enhancing the integrity of the intestinal mucosa [ 72 ]. The abundance of Clostridium XIV A and IV has been shown to negatively correlate with liver steatosis [ 86 ]. In rats with liver cirrhosis induced by carbon tetrachloride (CCl 4 ), Artesunate (an extract of Artemisia annua ) has been shown to increase levels of Lactobacillus and Eubacterium , thereby reducing the concentration of proinflammatory IL-6 and TNF- α , reducing injury to the intestinal mucosa, and decreasing the numbers of translocated bacteria [ 77 ].…”
