“…We therefore conclude that annular atrophy of the ankles is actually an end‐stage manifestation of an idiopathic lobular panniculitis of children localized to the lower part of the lower limbs. An association with autoimmune manifestations, such as the presence of an autoimmune disease or serum autoantibodies, occurred in five of the six patients with annular atrophy of the ankles reported so far (including the present case) (7,10–13), thus indicating an immunologic pathogenesis of this peculiar type of panniculitis.…”

Lipoatrophic Panniculitis of the Ankles in Childhood
