Lipoma arborescens of the bicipitoradial bursa

Abstract: Lipoma arborescens (LA) is a rare, benign articular lesion that is most commonly found within the suprapatellar recess of the knee. An extremely rare case of LA involving unilateral bicipitoradial bursa is described in this study. A 58-year-old male presented with a superficial soft mass on the volar aspect of the left forearm. The magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examination demonstrated a lobulated complex mass containing multiple frond-like fatty nodules, along the distal biceps tendon in the bicipitoradial… Show more

“…The disease is monoarticular in most cases but involvement of several joints in the same patient has been described (36,38,39). Extra-/peri-articular location of LA, especially in bursae, such as in the sub acromial space or prepatellar bursa, has been more exceptionally reported (8,9,36,37,40). In some cases, LA may be associated with osteochondral loose bodies (41).…”

“…It may be observed in association with chronic joint irritation and effusion of various origins. Rare observations were made within chronic bursitis (8,9). Its observation in the case of bursitis outside of an articulation supports the hypothesis of chronic inflammation inducing synovial hypertrophy and subsequent adipose differentiation (10).…”
