Liposuction Assisted Lipoma Removal – Option or Alternative?

Abstract: BACKGROUND:Lipomas are the most frequent soft -tissue tumors arising from adipose tissue. Traditionally, open surgery is a mainstay of their treatment. Recently, new treatment modalities emerge in order to decrease morbidity, to increase satisfaction rate in patents, but not to raise recurrence risk at the same time.AIM:The aim of this article is to present our experience with liposuction assisted lipoma removal in terms of efficacy, complications, risk of recurrence and patient satisfaction.METHODS:The study … Show more

“…Lipomas can be removed by surgical excision or liposuction [11] . Lipomas usually have a well-defined pseudocapsule, therefore dissection around these benign neoplasms is performed rather easily and they sometimes can be squeezed out through short incisions.…”

“…Results suggest that injectable DCA could be an alternative to surgical excision and liposuction for this entity. 43,44 In comparison with cosmetic applications, the level of evidence for the use of injectable DCA for these identified medical conditions is lower and the recommendation for its application is very weak. The composite analysis does, however, demonstrate that injectable DCA can achieve lipolysis in pathologic as well as cosmetic conditions.…”

“…Various surgical techniques that improve esthetic outcomes by shortening scar length have been reported, including suction-assisted surgical excision, endoscopic-assisted liposuction, and endoscopic excision for removing moderate and large lipomas [8][9][10]. Liposuction is one of the most helpful options for removing large, diffuse-spreading, and ill-defined suprafascial lipomas [13]. The advantages of liposuction include smaller scars, less pain, cost-effectiveness, reduced operative time, lower complication rates, and a better final contour [11].…”
