“…Some authors describe the use of additional incisions, such as in the melolabial crease, 100 in the infrajowl area, 104 and in the inferolateral neck. 105 Despite these reports, we have not found additional incisions to be necessary, and we have achieved consistent results using primarily the submental and postauricular incisions for access to the submentum, neck, and jowls ( Fig. 18.10).…”

“…Tumescent liposuction, LAL, and MIST have been used to treat fat excess and skin laxity, suggesting that a combination approach would be optimal. Traditional tumescent liposuction effectively addressed fat excess and, in the correctly chosen patient, also resulted in excellent recontouring; but in many cases, the residual skin laxity prevented patient satisfaction . Although LAL reportedly facilitates lipolysis, it failed to address the residual skin laxity of the neck adequately .…”

[1][2][3] Although LAL reportedly facilitates lipolysis, it failed to address the residual skin laxity of the neck adequately. 4 Although skin surface skin tightening technologies only deliver modest efficacy, MIST delivers energy directly into or beneath the dermis through needle electrodes or a fiber cannula, which has greater efficacy in laxity reduction, achieving 37% of the laxity reduction of surgical facelifts in a randomized, blinded comparison trial.…”
