Liquid Chromatographic Determination of Five Benzoylurea Insecticides in Fruit and Vegetables

Abstract: A liquid chromatographic (LC) method was developed to determine 5 benzoyl ureas—diflubenzuron, hexaflumuron, teflubenzuron, flufenozuron, and lufenuron—in peppers, tomatoes, eggplants, cucumbers, and oranges. Preparation of samples involve extraction with acetone and partitioning into dichloromethane-petroleum ether. A portion of this extract is cleaned up with a solid-phase extraction aminopropyl disposable column. With LC analysis using an RP-8-DB microbore column, acetonitrilewater (70 + 30, v/v) as mobile … Show more

“…UHPLC system Dionex UltiMate 3000 UHPLC systems GmbH, Germany with photodiode array detector as described by Gamon et al (1998) with the following conditions, mobile phase for isoproturon and metribuzin was methanol: water (90/10 v/v) at a flow rate of 1.0 mL/min with detection wavelength was set at 210 nm and retention time was about 3.31 and 3.76 min, respectively.…”

“…The LOQs of the targeted 8 BPUs are significantly lower in this method than those in the previously reported methods, and the percent recoveries are sufficiently high. Regarding organic solvent consumption, only 2 mL of CH 2 Cl 2 is required for extraction and 1 mL of acetonitrile for solvent exchange, compared with the high solvent consumption of the previous methods [8,38,39,[52][53][54][55][56].…”

“…Because of their thermolability, benzoylurea residues have generally been analyzed by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with ultraviolet detector, [8][9][10][11] uorescence detector [12][13][14] or mass spectrometry, [15][16][17][18] etc. Gas chromatography (GC) has scarcely been employed to determine these insecticides, and only diubenzuron and lufenuron were determined by gas chromatography with electron capture detection (GC-ECD).…”
