“…With an amino group and a carboxy group in its chemical structure, cefuroxime could be ionized under both positive and negative electrospray ionization conditions. However, the response was much higher in the negative mode compared with that in the positive mode (Partani et al ., ). From a full‐scan mass spectrum via the first quadrupole (Q1) mass filter, the [M − H] − at m/z 423.2 was found by introducing the [M − H] − ions into the second quadrupole (Q2) cell and, being dissociated via the Q3 mass filter, the product spectrum of the [M − H] − ion with a low CE of −20 eV gave a considerably better response and a higher signal, when a major fragment ion at m/z 206.8 was formed.…”

“…A wide variety of analytical techniques have been applied for the determination of cefuroxime in various biological fluids, including plasma, serum and urine using high-performance liquid chromatography with UV, single mass or tandem mass spectrometry (Carlier et al, 2012;Partani et al, 2010;Tuerk et al, 2006;Viberg et al, 2004). These methods require large volumes of biological samples, long run times and time-consuming cleanup procedures.…”

“…The pharmacokinetic properties of cefuroxime sodium have been extensively studied with the most appropriate pharmacokinetic model of a 2-compartment model [ 18 ]. Here, a 3-compartment model was selected in calculating the population pharmacokinetic, the possible reasons of that might be due to the difference in administration method (intravenous infusion) and/or the better accuracy in the chemical analysis.…”

“…The cephalosporins are a subclass of the ␤-lactam antibiotics, and include drugs such as cephalexin, cefixime, cefuroxime and cefoperazone. C18 is the most popular analytical column used for the cephalosporins, and they contain both amino and carboxylic acid groups, so can ionise in both negative and positive mode [163][164][165][166][167].…”
