Liquid-like nanofluid mediated modification of solar-assisted sponges for highly efficient cleanup and recycling of viscous crude oil spills

Abstract: Developing novel absorbent materials with both rapid absorption speed and efficient recovery of viscous crude oils presents an enticing prospect for crude cleanup and utilization. Herein, a strategy to synergistically...

“…The poor dispersion of silica not only increases processing energy consumption but also results in poor mechanical performance of the elastomer-silica nanocomposites Therefore, much effort has been put into improving their dispersion, including polymer chain functionalization, 26 compatibilizer introduction 39 and silica surface modification. [40][41][42] Polymer chain functionalization Functionalizing the elastomer matrices is regarded as an effective approach to improve the polarity of polymer chains so as to enhance polymer-silica interactions, which is verified by Wolff and co-workers. 43 From the point of view of modification sites, end-chain functionalization and in-chain functionalization exist.…”

“…The disadvantage of silanol groups is their polar characteristic, making the silica difficult to disperse in the widely adopted nonpolar elastomer matrices. The poor dispersion of silica not only increases processing energy consumption but also results in poor mechanical performance of the elastomer–silica nanocomposites Therefore, much effort has been put into improving their dispersion, including polymer chain functionalization, 26 compatibilizer introduction 39 and silica surface modification 40–42 …”

“…It is well-known that flammability is an inherent drawback that limits the application of traditional PU in areas where flame retardancy is required. The extreme flammability of PU not only pollutes the environment but also poses a threat to human health. Therefore, enhancing the flame-retardant properties of PUs can improve their application in some specific areas. In contrast to traditional halogenated flame retardants, phosphorus-containing flame retardants such as 9,10-dihydro-9-oxa-10-phosphaphenanthrene-10-oxide (DOPO), various phosphates, and phosphonitrilic chloride trimer have attracted more and more attention due to their high efficiency, environmental friendliness, and nontoxicity during combustion. Among these organophosphorus flame retardants, DOPO is favored due to its high reactivity and low cost. , In recent years, using the synergistic effects of phosphorus and nitrogen elements in the PU matrix has been considered to be one of the most efficient and environmentally friendly flame-retarding strategies to improve the flame-retardant efficiency of materials. Currently, there are two main methods for improving fire retardancy, which are divided into inherent and addition types.…”

“…[1][2][3][4] With the signicant consumption of recoverable reserves in oil reservoirs, more and more recovery uids with fewer crude oil components have been generated. 5,6 However, these undesirable O/W emulsions cause formidable issues, such as additional processing and transportation costs, inefficient equipment and pipeline utilization, and scaling and corrosion of related facilities. 7 The emulsions stabilized by the interaction of natural interfacial active substances and residual chemicals are challenging to handle cost-effectively.…”
