Liquid-Liquid Extraction of Indium(III) from the HCl Medium by Ionic Liquid A327H+Cl− and Its Use in a Supported Liquid Membrane System

Francisco José Alguacil

Abstract: Ionic liquid A327H+Cl− was generated by reaction of tertiary amine A327 and HCl, and the liquid-liquid extraction of indium(III) from the HCl medium by this ionic liquid dissolved in Solvesso 100 was investigated. The extraction reaction is exothermic. The numerical analysis of indium distribution data suggests the formation of A327H+InCl4− in the organic phase. The results derived from indium(III) extraction have been implemented in a supported liquid membrane system. The influence of the stirring speed (600–… Show more

“…Furthermore, a problem associated with the use of ILs as extractants is their high viscosity; therefore, they are dissolved in molecular solvents. This approach allows for producing highly efficient extraction systems for the recovery of indium(III) and gold(III) from electronic waste [21,22] and Mo(VI) in high (more than 99%) yields [23].…”

“…In the late 1990s, its demand, use, and value started rising rapidly due to the development of LCD monitors and television sets. 63 The major product related to the application of the metal is indium−tin oxide (ITO), whose thin films have commercially valuable properties (transparency, electric conductance, and reflection of IR radiation) with varied uses. 64 Currently, In(III) materials and molecular complexes are relevant to various aspects of materials chemistry (e.g.…”

“…There has been a renaissance in the chemistry of indium since 2010. In the late 1990s, its demand, use, and value started rising rapidly due to the development of LCD monitors and television sets . The major product related to the application of the metal is indium–tin oxide (ITO), whose thin films have commercially valuable properties (transparency, electric conductance, and reflection of IR radiation) with varied uses .…”

“…Waste semiconductor materials, fiber optic products, and light-emitting diodes (LEDs) are secondary resources with high Ga content. Approximately 95% of global In comes from the by-products in the zinc refining system [13], while In is enriched to varying degrees due to the different smelting methods. In is mainly concentrated in the furnace slag, flue dust, anode mud, and leaching residues [14].…”
