Liquid-vapour equilibrium. XLII. Systems: ethyl alcohol-water-tert-butyl alcohol and ethyl alcohol-water-isobutyl alcohol

Abstract: Liquid-vapour equilibrium of binary systems ethyl alcohol-tert-butyl alcohol, ethyl alcoholisobutyl alcohol and tert-butyl alcohol-water in the whole concentration range and of ternary systems ethyl alcohol-water-tert-butyl alcohol and ethyl alcohol-water-isobutyl alcohol at low ter t-butyl alcohol and isobutyl alcohol concentrations at constant pressure 760 Torr were measured on the Gillespie apparatus. Binary data were correlated by the equations of Van Laar, Margules and Wilson, the ternary data by the Marg… Show more

“…The constants were calculated by a nonlinear optimization method to minimize the mean relative deviation, MRD(P). The results obtained are in good agreement with the data found in the literature: Willingham et al (1945), Forziati et al (1949), Myers et al (1979), Ambrose and Townsend (1963), Suska et al (1970), Nicolini and Laffitte (1949). The Antoine constants for tert-butyl alcohol (Table 2) were taken from Aucejo et al (1998).…”

“…VLE data at several temperatures for the system ethanol + water + IBA were obtained by Perelygin et al . and isobaric VLE at 101.3 kPa were also reported previously. No VLE data for the system 1-propanol + water + IBA have been found in the literature. The choice of IBA is in concordance with the principles of Green Chemistry, as IBA has a low toxicity (LD 50 in rats equal to 2460 mg/kg) and can be obtained from biomass.…”

“…To compare the VLE data of the system ethanol (1a) + water (2) + IBA (3) obtained in this work with those from literature at 101.3 kPa, these reported VLE data have been estimated using the NRTL model with the VLE parameters given in Table . The estimation has been made with a bubble temperature calculation and the average deviations between calculated and experimental values for temperature and vapor phase composition are shown in Table and Figure .…”

“…( 9) was calculated using the Antoine equation with the Antoine constants listed in Table 1. * N: number of data points ** a) Kurihara et al (1993), b) Kojima et al (1968), c) Suska et al (1970) e average deviations between the experimental and predicted vapor compositions and bubble points using Wilson parameters are then shown in Table 5. Table 6 shows the average deviations between the calculated and referenced vapor-liquid equilibrium data (Kojima et al, 1968;Suska et al, 1970;Kurihara et al, 1993) at nite composition regions.…”
