Liquid Viscosity and Surface Tension of R1234yf and R1234ze Under Saturation Conditions by Surface Light Scattering

Abstract: In the present study, surface light scattering (SLS) was used for the simultaneous determination of liquid kinematic viscosity and surface tension of 2,3,3,3-tetrafluoroprop-1-ene (R1234yf) and of trans-1,3,3,3-tetrafluoroprop-1-ene (R1234ze) under saturation conditions. A new SLS apparatus was built up and checked with 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane (R134a), and a good agreement of our data from SLS with literature could be found. With the new apparatus, R1234yf and R1234ze were investigated in the temperature ran… Show more

“…Although thermophysical properties are critical for the selection of a suitable refrigerant and system design, only a few studies have been conducted on the thermophysical properties (such as viscosity and density) of refrigerant mixtures containing R1234yf. [3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11] In this study, we measured the liquid viscosity and density of R1234yf and those of its binary mixtures with R32 and R125. The measured data were correlated using the roughness hard-sphere (RSH) and Grunberg & Nissan methods.…”

“…The surface tension is the one of important parameters that affects the heat transfer coefficient during condensation and evaporation. For R1234ze (E) and R1234yf, the surface tension data have been provided by Tanaka and Higashi (2013), Takahashi et al (2009), and Zhao et al (2014). For R1233zd(E), only three points of surface tension data are reported by Hulse et al (2012).…”

“…Unpublished data by Bi and Cui 22 using a surface light scattering method at temperatures of 303 to 373 K were available for comparison. They used the same experimental system as described previously 23 , and the kinematic viscosity uncertainty is about 2 % with a confidence level of 0.95 ( k = 2) according to the author’s judgment. Figure 5 shows the deviations, as a function of density, of the experimental data of this work and Bi and Cui 22 from our correlation (eqs 1 to 12).…”
