Show more

“…These findings concur with those reported by some studies in the literature (Griffiths & Preston, 1992;Tezcan & Salmaz , 2005;Çökelez & Yalçın, 2012;Karagöz & Sağlam Arslan, 2012) stating that students mostly illustrate atom as a sphere. Moreover, Yaseen & Akaygün (2016) reported that in student textbooks the Dalton and Bohr Atomic models are frequently illustrated. This is believed to have affected the results of the current study.…”

“…For students to understand concepts, they need to correctly code them in their minds. When the relevant literature is reviewed, it is seen that there is a large amount of research focusing on the investigation of students' mental models about the concept of atom (Harrison & Treagust, 1996;Yıldız, 2006;Akyol, 2009;Yalçın, 2011;Çökelez A. , 2012;Çökelez & Yalçın, 2012;Karagöz & Sağlam Arslan, 2012;Yaseen & Akaygün, 2016). In their study, Harrison & Treagust, (1996) reported that many students drew atom as a small sphere within a larger circle.…”
