“…The genetic processes of the Paleoproterozoic Birimian rocks of the WAC have long been the subject of debate. One school of thought is of the view that the Paleoproterozoic Birimian rocks were generated from plume‐related magmatism (e.g., Abouchami et al, ; Boher et al, ; Pouclet, Vidal, Delor, Simeon, & Alric, ), but another has proposed that the entire Birimian rocks formed in an island arc environment (Mortimer, ; Sylvester & Attoh, ; Ama Salah, Liégeois, & Pouclet, ; Dia, Van Schmus, & Kröner, ; Béziat et al, ; Asiedu et al, ; Dampare, Shibata, Asiedu, & Osae, ; Attoh, Evans, & Bickford, ; Dampare, Shibata, Asiedu, Osae, & Banoeng‐Yakubo, ). In Ghana, studies carried out on the Paleoproterozoic Birimian rocks have concentrated mostly on the Ashanti and the Sefwi Greenstone Belts, whereas the Kibi‐Winneba Greenstone Belt, occupying the southeastern part of the WAC, has received little attention.…”
