Consequently, they were at the forefront of multiproxy analysis, actively seeking collaborators to maximize data extraction from sediments using X-radiography, geochemistry, diatoms, charcoal, wood, phytoliths, and cuticles (e.g., Livingstone and Fleischer, 1963;Steinitz-Kannan et al, 1986;Maley et al, 1990;Bush et al, 1992).
