LncRNAs Regulatory Networks in Cellular Senescence

Abstract: Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) are a class of transcripts longer than 200 nucleotides with no open reading frame. They play a key role in the regulation of cellular processes such as genome integrity, chromatin organization, gene expression, translation regulation, and signal transduction. Recent studies indicated that lncRNAs are not only dysregulated in different types of diseases but also function as direct effectors or mediators for many pathological symptoms. This review focuses on the current findings of … Show more

“…We found that Mlinc.28428-positive cells under-expressed H19 and PI16 ( Figure 5A). These genes, that present a diversity of functions, are involved in stress mechanisms (oxydative response and shear stress), inflammation in fibroblasts and MSCs, and senescence pathways [81,82,83,84]. Despite the low number of differentially expressed genes in Mlinc.28428-positive cells, their functional behaviour and their known targets suggest a pathway linked to stress response and senescence establishment that reinforce our previous assumptions on Mlinc.28428 function.…”

“…There is an increasing body of evidence showing that long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) and micro RNAs (miRNAs) are involved in cardiovascular aging. LncRNAs act as key regulators of the central aspects of cardiovascular aging (i.e., cardiac hypertrophy, fibrosis, and endothelial/vascular function), and their role in cardiac biology has been recently reviewed [51][52][53][54][55]. A number of miRNAs have been associated with regulation of senescence in various tissues, including the heart [56,57].…”

“…It has caused widespread concern that lncRNAs showed a vital role in modulating gene expression at the epigenetic, transcriptional and post-transcriptional levels in various cancers, which became a target of diagnosis, prognosis and therapy in various cancers. 5,6 LncRNAs were also involved in the tumorigenesis of OSCC, mainly by acting as miRNA sponges to down-regulate miRNAs on mRNAs. 7,8 Zinc finger antisense 1 (ZFAS1) is a protooncogene that is aberrantly expressed in diverse cancers, including ovarian cancer, 9 cervical cancer, 10 gastric cancer.…”
