Load curtailment minimization by optimal placements of SVC/STATCOM

Abstract: Summary In this paper, a new sensitivity‐based methodology has been proposed for optimal placement of a static VAr compensator (SVC)/static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) to minimize load curtailment that is required to ensure system security, integrity and reliability after undesirable changes occur in the system. SVC/STATCOM has a significant impact on control of reactive power and thereby system bus voltages. This motivated to develop an appropriate approach to find their optimal location in order to acc… Show more

“…In the future, we will research analytic steady security with alternating current (AC) power flow, which is non-linear and non-convex. Prevention and correction of generators and network topology also have effects on the analytic security estimation, for example load shedding minimization by static var compensator or static synchronous compensator (SVC/STATCOM) [29]. The expansion and relaxation of simplifications and assumptions of the models will be carried out in future work.…”

“…In this one, Yuvaraj & al [9] proposed a metaheuristic based on the light search algorithm to optimize the placement of DSTAT-COM, and a DG in an electrical network, taking into account the variations of the load. Jai Govind Singh & al [10] proposed another analytical method for optimal placement of a DSTATCOM and SVC to ensure the safety of the system in the event of sudden modifications in its characteristics. In 2013, Oloulade et al [11] proposed a method for a DSTATCOM placement in a distribution network in order to improve the quality of customer supply.…”

“…The analysis and types of solutions for it are well defined in the literature . On the other hand, the optimum placement of an SVC to support the voltage profile among a grid is an important subject and different approaches exist . However, for the SVC system described in this paper, there was no practical alternative for the placement due to geographical, economical, and logistical reasons.…”
