Local gravitational solutions dual to M2-branes intersecting and/or ending on M5-branes

Abstract: We construct local solutions to eleven-dimensional supergravity describing M2branes intersecting and/or ending on M5-branes, in the near-horizon limit of the M2branes. Global solutions describing these theories should have 16 supercharges and asymptotic AdS 4 × S 7 regions, as well as M5-branes wrapping AdS 3 × S 3 subspaces. We construct the local solution describing a stack of an arbitrary number of M5branes with AdS 3 ×S 3 worldvolume and arbitrary M2-brane charge. Our construction provides a mechanism to g… Show more

“…We will perform a general calculation, applicable to essentially all of the solutions of refs. [31,[36][37][38][39][40][41][42][43][44], however, we will present explicit results only for a representative sample of the SUGRA solutions in refs. [31,36,[38][39][40][41], as we discuss below.…”

“…For generic values of γ a crucial step was taken in [10] where it was shown that the two maximally symmetric AdS 4 × S 7 and AdS 7 × S 4 solutions can be deformed to arbitrary values of the modulus γ (but not the sign) of γ. A complementary observation was made in [23], where it was noted that γ = 1 is compatible with solutions of the supergravity equations that are asymptotic to AdS 7 × S 4 . In the present paper, we shall extend and unify these results, by showing that all known solutions associated with special values of γ may be continuously deformed to solutions with the same sign of γ, but different modulus |γ|.…”

“…We show, in particular, that changing γ rescales the M5 2 Ref. [23] concluded that there is no obstruction, at the level of the symmetry algebra, to the coexistence in the same solution of an AdS 7 ×S 4 and a AdS 4 ×S 7 throat. Nevertheless, we have not found any regular solutions of this type.…”
