Local instructional theory of probability topics based on realistic mathematics education for eight-grade students

Abstract: This study examines the development of learning designs based on Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) on the probability topic at the eighth-grade junior high school level. Probability abounds in everyday life, and the RME approach is believed to develop students’ mathematical communication skills. This learning design development used the Plomp model combined with Gravemeijer and Cobb model. The research phase includes preliminary research, prototyping phase, and assessment phase. The products of this resear… Show more

“…So, it can be said that mathematics learning with PMRI to improve students' numeracy skills has been successfully applied in this study. Relevance with previous research shows that PMRI can improve the ability to understand, communicate, and cognitive learning outcomes of junior high school students, as well as problem-solving on chance material, through the application of RME combined with the use of media, traditional contexts, and the preparation of teaching materials (Zuhri et al, 2023;Armiati et al, 2022;Bilad & Ekawati, 2022). This adds to the novelty of the application of PMRI, which can improve numeracy skills on the topic of chance using the context of door prize draws.…”

“…Probability is the science of randomness and uncertainty (Hokor, 2023;Armiati et al, 2022). Probability is also related to an event's sample point and sample space (Prihartini et al, 2020).…”

“…An example of the application of this material is when someone decides to go to college to continue their education. Suppose university A has more applicants than B, then it is likely that individuals will place A as their first choice (Armiati et al, 2022;Sya'bani et al, 2021). An event is a set of outcomes of an experiment.…”
