Local mechanisms for acupoint sensitization in gall bladder meridian of foot shaoyang-a gene chip study

Abstract: Acupuncture manipulations are clinically important to traditional Chinese medicine, yet the biological mechanisms have not been fully understood. This study aimed to investigate continuous stimulation-induced gene expression changes at stimulated and non-stimulated adjacent acupoints in the same meridian. Catgut embedding into acupoint (CEP) was conducted at acupoint Yanglingquan (gall bladder meridian of foot-shaoyang 34, GB34) of Sprague Dawley rats once or continuously for eight weeks, and gene expression … Show more

“…Stimulation of acupoints with CEP treatment can last for hours to days, allowing more vital stimulation on acupoints than manual and electroacupuncture treatment. Furthermore, CEP treatment quantifies the stimulus intensity by the catgut’s length and the frequency of catgut embedding, thus allowing repeatability of the experiment ( Ishida et al., 2019 ).…”

“…As expected, Stomach meridian is on the top of meridians list since it is the main meridian for gastric disease treatment. Acupoints on the Bladder Meridian are not only useful from a musculoskeletal perspective [25] but also can be used for a range of aliments from eye disorders [26] to gastric motility [27].…”
