Abstract:Chinese state-owned enterprises (SOEs) operate under seemingly incompatible logics of economic and noneconomic objectives and thus within a setting of institutional complexity. This complexity manifests in the coexistence of the modern enterprise system and a firm-level Local Party Committee (LPC).
