“…The first indication that resistin was involved in the regulation of the female reproductive system may be the discovery that resistin was expressed in rat ovaries throughout the oestrous cycle and was elevated in animals with induced ovarian cysts (Jones et al 2009). Subsequent study demonstrated resistin expression in ovarian cells of bovine (Maillard et al 2011), pigs , humans (Niles et al 2012, Reverchon et al 2013b) and the vespertilionid bat (Singh et al 2015). We demonstrated that both gonadotropins and steroid hormones significantly stimulated, while insulin growth factor type 1 (IGF1) and a synthetic agonist of PPARg reduced resistin expression and secretion by cultured porcine ovarian follicles, indicating that ovarian resistin expression can be regulated by several factor (Rak-Mardyła & Drwal 2015.…”

“…However, resistin significantly reduced P 4 and E 2 secretion in response to IGF1 in human granulosa cells (Reverchon et al 2013b) and porcine ovarian follicles . In the most recent study, Singh et al (2015) demonstrated also that in vespertilionid bats (Scotophilus heathi), resistin alone significantly stimulated P 4 synthesis, but when acting together with the luteinizing hormone (LH), it also stimulated androgen secretion. A previous study demonstrated that PPARg activation may represent one mechanism of endocrine action of resistin in porcine ovarian follicles (Rak-Mardyła & Drwal 2015).…”

“…Similarly, studies on human granulosa cells treated with resistin have also shown reduced steroid hormone secretion in response to IGF1 (Reverchon et al 2013). However, in human theca cells in normal cycling premenopausal women (Munir et al 2005), pig ovary (Rak-Mardyła et al 2013 and bats (Singh et al 2015), a stimulatory effect of resistin at physiological doses on androgen production was observed. Conversely, in porcine ovarian follicles, resistin decreased gonadotropinand IGF1-induced steroid hormone secretion by inhibiting the protein expressions of 3βHSD, 17βHSD and CYP19A1 (Rak et al 2015a).…”

“…However, approaches on the reproductive biology of females are limited and their reproductive pattern are defined based only on investigations of the external morphological characteristics of their body (dilated abdomen, visible nipples with secretion and the absence of hair around it) (Racey 1988, Gannon & Willig 1992, Esbérard 2002. In other countries, there is some recent research on female gonadal histophysiology focusing on folliculogenesis and ovulation of different species of bats located in Colombia (Komar et al 2007), China (Wang et al 2008), Canada (Rintoul & Brigham 2014), Mexico (Antonio-Rubio Porras-Gómez & Moreno-Mendoza 2013) and India (Sastry & Pillai 2013, Singh et al 2015.…”
