“…Seizures and headache were the most frequent conditions, and this finding is consistent with the data already reported in the literature (15)(16)(17)(18)(19)(20)(21)(22). Behavioral changes and learning disabilities have also been reported (23,24), while conditions such as stroke, transverse myelitis, and hemiparesis, which have been reported in adults (23,(25)(26)(27)(28), were not present. In our series, intraparenchymal abnormalities on MRI, vascular malformations, or CNS vasculitis represented one-third of these neurologic manifestations.…”

“…We found the highest prevalence of ischemic heart disease among AIS admissions with SSc. This is consistent with prior case reports suggesting a higher incidence of vascular risk factors such as severe hypertension, chronic renal failure, or cerebral vasculitis [11,45,46]. Awareness and early treatment intervention of ischemic heart disease and hypertension may prevent AIS in these patients.…”

“…SSc is an autoimmune connective tissue disease characterized by microangiopathy and skin and visceral fibrosis and a close association with specific autoantibody patterns. While there are case reports of AIS and transient ischemic attack in patients with SSc [11,45,46], there are no epidemiological studies that examine the prevalence of SSc within AIS. We found that AIS admissions with SSc were more likely to be female and of White race.…”
