Log-Derived Evaluation of Shaly Clastic Reservoirs

Abstract: Reliable evaluation of hydrocarbon resources in shaly clastic reservoir rocks is an important, although difficult, task. This paper briefly reviews the wide variety of interpretive models that has evolved. The discussion focuses on digital shaly-sand evaluation techniques based on the Waxman-Smits model to provide information on total and effective reservoir porosity and fluid distribution, silt content, volume, type (smectite, illite, and chlorite/kaolinite), and distribution modes (dispersed, laminated, and … Show more

“…If the BVW ranges from 0.035 to 0.07, the grain size of the sand is fine to very finegrained [18]. When value of BVW is constant or close to constant with some minor scattering, the formation becomes homogeneous and close to irreducible water saturation [20].…”

“…Hydrocarbon bearing zones are defined by the help of high resistivity, high SP, low GR values (Asquith & Gibson, 1982), low density and neutron values (Fertl, 1987). In Beani Bazar Gas field well-1 (BB-1), four hydrocarbon bearing zones were identified.…”
