Abstract: The red-legged partridge (Alectoris rufa) is a popular game bird species that is in decline in several regions of southwestern Europe. The introduction of farm-reared individuals of a distinct genetic make-up in hunting reserves can result in genetic swamping of wild populations. Here we present a de novo genome assembly for the red-legged partridge based on long-read sequencing technology.
