Long‐Term and Short‐Term Creep Characteristic Analysis for HTPB Propellant

Abstract: A solid rocket motor is in storage for most of its life cycle, and propellant creep occurs subjected to gravity load. To analyse the creep characteristics of HTPB propellant during long-term storage, MSC Marc is used to calculate the maximum von Mises stress of the motor under horizontal and vertical storage conditions. Based on the numerical results, the short-term reciprocating creep test and long-term creep test are designed and carried out. The results illustrate that the process of propellant creep from d… Show more

“…Their study indicated that the generalized Kelvin model could effectively capture the creep behavior of double-base solid propellant. Deng et al [14] provided a mechanical test procedure for assessing the long-term creep behavior of HTPB propellant. They conducted an analysis of the propellant's long-term creep properties by employing a Modified Burgers model.…”

“…During the long-term storage of the propellant, it would experience the creep, causing the increment of the porosity, generation of voids, and loss of humidity. Conducting creep experiments has been a common practice for the testing and NDE/SHM method development for SRM propellants [32][33][34][35]. The specimen was suspended by four steel ropes pulling on a smooth gripper to the top of a fixture shelf.…”
