Long-Term Assessment of Temperature Management in an Industrial Scale Biogas Plant

Abstract: Temperature management is one of the primary considerations of biogas plant operation, and influences physical and biochemical processes. An increase in the temperature leads to an increase in the hydrolysis rate of the feedstock, while it can inhibit microorganisms taking part in different stages of anaerobic digestion. Because of the complexity of the biochemical processes within the anaerobic digestion process, there is a lack of knowledge about the effects of temperature and temperature change on efficienc… Show more

“…To improve the microbial community in the anaerobic digestion process, leachate is added to Since the same biomass was used in each reactor, specific biomethane generation under different sand concentrations did not vary much, which shows that the sand content's impact on the contact between microorganisms and the substrate was negligible in smallscale reactors. However, this kind of problem may occur in a large-scale plant as well as the accumulation of inorganics in the reactor within the operation time [16].…”

“…In the BMP tests, two different systems were used: AMPTS II and a climate-controlled room with a eudiometer. The details were explained in the study performed by Onen Cinar (2021) [16]. Half-liter glass reactors were used for all analyses, and daily hand mixing was implemented in the reactors.…”

“…Agricultural and industrial activities contaminate the environment in all possible ways including the emission of harmful gases, contaminating water resources, and producing enormous solid waste. Agriculture activities produce approximately 24% whereas industries produce 21% of all greenhouse gases emitted due to human activities [14,15]. The greenhouse gases only produced by agriculture and food systems are roughly 16.5 billion tons annually [16].…”
