Long-term Clinical and Angiographic Results of Neuroform Stent-Assisted Coil Embolization in Wide-Necked Intracranial Aneurysms

Abstract: Neuroform stent-assisted coil embolization of wide-necked intracranial aneurysms prevents hemorrhage and provides a high rate of aneurysm occlusion at long-term follow-up.

“…[4][5][6][7][8] Prior studies have reported that stent-coiling may result in less aneurysm recanalization over time but more complications-both intraprocedurally and in a delayed fashion-than coiling alone. [9][10][11][12][13] A recent large, single-institution, retrospective series described higher morbidity and mortality rates associated with the stent-coiling technique as compared with coiling either with or without balloon assistance. 14 Given that prospective data on stent-coiling are limited, we analyzed data from the prospective, randomized, multicenter Matrix and Platinum Science (MAPS) Trial (NCT00396981, www.…”

“…Postprocedural in-stent stenosis was reported to be observed in 0.8%-5.8% of the patients. 3,[5][6][7]10) According to the report by Fiorella et al, 10) in-stent stenosis was observed in nine patients (5.8%) after treatment using Neuroform, and it was symptomatic in two patients. Antiplatelet therapy was continued in all patients, and stenosis was alleviated in four patients but progressed to CO in one patient on a long-term follow-up.…”
