Long‐term clinical and prosthetic outcomes of soft liner and clip attachments for bar/implant overdentures: a randomised controlled clinical trial

Abstract: Long-term clinical and prosthetic outcomes of soft liner attachments for bar/implant overdentures were not sufficiently investigated. The aim of this trial was to evaluate clinical and prosthetic outcomes of resilient liner and clip attachments for bar/implant-retained mandibular overdenture after 7 years. Thirty edentulous male participants received two implants in the canine areas of the mandible. Three months later, implants were splinted with a resilient bar. Mandibular overdentures were connected to the b… Show more

“…In the cases presented herein were 11.5 and 13 mm. Nonetheless, relatively long dental implants are not generally needed for adequate support or retention of overdentures or fixed prostheses 17. The anterior mandible generally is composed of dense bone that is very supportive for clinical loading of dental implants.…”

“…This may relieve the mucosa from a high, local mechanical stress, which supports prosthetic treatment [ 3 ]. Soft liners are usually recommended in patients with atrophied or sharp alveolar ridges, low tolerance of oral mucosa to pressure, atrophic mucosa, formation of recurrent sore spots under dentures on mucosa, poor retention of dentures, during implant healing [ 1 , 4 , 5 ], and for soft attachments for overdentures [ 6 , 7 ].…”

“…Furthermore, LTSL materials were administered to denture fitting surfaces to improve stability and retention. The short-term soft denture liners maintained their resilience for more than 1 month, while the long-term was recommended for use for up to 1 year [11], [26].…”
