Long-Term Effects of Delapril Hydrochloride on Procollagen Type III Amino-Terminal Peptide, Left Ventricular Mass and Left Ventricular Function in Hypertensive Patients

Abstract: eft ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) is a major hazardous cardiovascular complication in patients with hypertension. 1,2 The development of LVH depends not only on the renin-angiotensin system generating angiotensin II, 3 but also on the mechanical stress, which activates the protein kinase cascade of phosphorylation in cardiac myocytes. 4 The goal of antihypertensive therapy should be prevention and regression of LVH. It is reported that angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors are more effective than -blo… Show more

“…Several conventional drugs influence extracellular matrix metabolism, most notably thrombolytic therapy, which powerfully stimulates MMP expression and collagen degradation [109][110][111][112]. Notable are also MMP-9-lowering effect of statins [113][114][115][116] and matrix effects of thiazolidinediones [117,118], angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors [119][120][121][122][123][124], angiotensin II-receptor antagonists [125,126], and spironolactone [106,124]. In a small study of heart failure patients, thalidomide treatment lowered MMP-2 and also improved LV systolic function [127].…”
