Long-term effects of glans penis augmentation using injectable hyaluronic acid gel for premature ejaculation

Abstract: The authors created the glans penis augmentation by injectable hyaluronic acid gel and reported the 6-month result for premature ejaculation. In a total of 38 patients, long-term effects of 5 years were compared to those of 6 months in terms of residual volume of implants and efficacy on premature ejaculation. Maximal glandular circumference measured by tapeline significantly decreased by 15% (Po0.05) but mean patient's visual estimation (Gr 0-Gr 4) did not decrease (3.60 vs 3.56, P40.05). Compared to 6-month … Show more

“…A surgical procedure consisting of a dorsal neurectomy with or without granular augmentation with hyaluronic acid gel has been reported to improve PE [56]. Although positive results have been reported with significantly increased IELT, the two groups that underwent dorsal neurectomy or dorsal neurectomy and glandular augmentation, both had significant side effects, including penile numbness, paresthesia and pain, whereas the group that underwent hyaluronic acid augmentation alone reported no adverse side effects.…”

“…The group that underwent hyaluronic acid augmentation alone reported no adverse side effects. Five years study on the glans augmentation arm of the trial and the hyaluronic acid implants were well maintained, showing long-term efficacy (Kwak et al, 2008). The role of surgery in the management of PE remains unclear, and thus further trials are needed before its role can be established.…”

“…Short of invasive procedures such as augmentation of the glans penis with hyaluronic gel to induce long-term penile hypoaesthesia, 17,18 there is no convincing evidence that any pharmacological treatment to date offers a 'cure' for PE. The American Urological Association (AUA 2004) guidelines on the management of PE 19 suggest that the risks and benefits of all therapeutic options should be presented to the patient (and partner) so that an educated treatment choice may be made by the patient in consultation with the physician.…”
