“…Despite radiation therapy conferring a similar oncological outcome to that of RARP [35], worse long-term LUTS after radiation therapy [36] appear to play a significant role in PCa survivorship and treatment selection. The available published data on IPSS post RARP vs post radiation therapy for localized PCa are summarized in Table 4 [37][38][39]. While these are non-randomized, cross-cohort comparisons, mean post-treatment IPSSs were worse for radiation therapy, with less improvement in all three subgroups of baseline mild, moderate and severe LUTS when compared with our RARP cohort observed for both intensity-modulated radiation therapy and external beam radiation therapy.…”

“…This tool consists of seven symptoms (frequency, nocturia, weak urinary stream, hesitancy, intermittency, incomplete emptying and urgency) and one urinary quality of life question. Each symptom is scored from 0 to 5, with the total IPSS being the total of all seven symptom scores 27 . The IPSS tool is particularly advantageous during radiotherapy as it is patient reported and can give a more accurate indicator of change in urinary function as treatment progresses.…”

“…For patients suffering from prostate cancer (PCa), several treatment modalities are available (1)(2)(3). An important aspect of counseling patients is to understand the impact of each management option on their quality of life (QoL) (4,5). Some of these treatments, such as androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) have positive effects on QoL that improve the QoL of patients with moderate to severe voiding dysfunction via decreasing prostate volume and lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) (3,6).…”
