Long-Term Prognosis of Acute Aortic Dissection With Medical Treatment. A Survey of 263 Unoperated Patients.

Abstract: cute aortic dissection has a poor prognosis without therapy. Since 1955, DeBakey et al have reported surgical treatment for aortic dissection and classified aortic dissections as 3 types. 1,2 Thereafter, a simpler categorization, the Stanford classification, was proposed in 1970. 3 The most proximal type dissection was subjected to surgery and the peripheral type dissection without severe complications was treated medically. In addition to the site of the aortic dissection, we are also able to detect the state… Show more

“…In contrast to these reports, Juvonen et al [4] showed that patency did not predict rupture. Kozai et al [12] insisted that patency affected survival rate but did not affect events in the chronic period.…”

“…Entry site at the non-coronary sinus was considerably smaller than the reported in the previous (1). Once the acute phase is overcome, a good prognosis can be achieved with medical treatment (up to 80% event free survival), as it is shown in some series (2). Surgical treatment for AAAD has been improving its outcomes and yield good prognosis data along the last years.…”
