Long-term radon investigation in four selected kindergartens in different geological and climate regions of Slovenia

Abstract: During a one year-and-a-half period in 1993 and 1994 indoor radon concentrations were measured with complementary measurement techniques in four selected kindergartens in different geological and climate regions in Slovenia. This study was performed to obtain more information how local geology, climate, building materials and occupational patterns affect radon concentration in a kindergarten. In addition, the advantages and disadvantages of different measurement techniques were critically appraised. It was fou… Show more

“…The data reported in this study is quite greater than 651 ± 22.85 Bq/m 3 and 250 ± 11.355 Bq/m 3 for Barkin Ladi and Jos South respectively as reported (Abdulwahab, Asuku et al 2020). The reason for variation in the reported radon concentration for these areas may be attributed to their geology (Vaupotic, Krizman et al 1994), climatic condition (Vaupotič, Kobal et al 1998), uranium grade and complex effects of host rock, uranium ore grade as well as uranium mineralogy (Fleischer 1983, Morawska andPhillips 1993).…”

“…The reason for this difference could be a function of the geological structure of the area, the depth of the water well and also differences in the climate between the months of March and June. Others have reported that the geological structure of an area is a predominant factor for high radon concentration [15] and climate condition is also an important factor [16].…”

“…However, the ventilation rates in the dwellings are influenced by the habits of the people residing in the dwellings. 9 Studies on environmental radiation levels in the dwellings constructed under Double Bedroom Housing Scheme at Erravalli and Narasannapet model villages of Telangana state were carried out with the financial support from the Telangana State Council of Science and Technology which functions under the aegis of the Department of Environment, Forests, Science and Technology, Government of Telangana state, India. The present paper deals with the environmental radiation levels in these dwellings, which should be helpful in suggesting safe human habitat from the radiological protection point of view.…”
