Long-Term Result of the Transcatheter Arterial Embolization for Ruptured Renal Angiomyolipoma

Abstract: Recently, there have been a few reports on the long-term effectiveness of TAE, a conservative treatment for renal AML rupture. Our study indicated that TAE might be recommended for patients with renal AML rupture not only for stanching and pre-operative treatment but also for a conservative treatment with regular follow-up.

“…In our study, we used PVA 100-300 μc to occlude subsegmental branches of traumatic bleeding. Large vessels were incompletely occluded as the particles become embedded in the walls [22,23]. PVA control during injections is easy but reflux is common and occurred in one of seven studied cases.…”

“…PVA particles were used in many studies. These particles occlude variable-sized arteries according to their size range [22][23][24]. In our study, we used PVA 100-300 μc to occlude subsegmental branches of traumatic bleeding.…”

“…Although experience is based on data from case series, both embolisation and nephron sparing surgery have been performed safely without compromising renal function both in elective cases [96,97] and acute renal haemorrhage [98], including during pregnancy [64]. Embolisation can be performed for active bleeding, is less invasive and does not require general anaesthesia but may need to be repeated.…”

“…At the same time, embolization causes decrease in tumor size and can be used in case of a sudden hemorrhage as well as a planned therapeutic procedure. Renal artery embolization also enables the performance of conserving surgical procedure ( 1 , 4 , 5 ) .…”
