“…In Tsivian's study, 15 of the patients ultimately proceeded to endarterectomy with 1‐year graft survival reported at 80% and patient survival 86.6%. Galazka reviewed 25 patients who underwent iliac endarterectomy and renal transplant in the same setting and reported 1‐year graft and patient survival rates of 88% and 93%, respectively . The results from our study compare favorably with the reported literature; moreover, results from EP patients were comparable to their matched NEP patients.…”

“…In another 32 patients, occlusion of the hypogastric artery was an indication for anastomosis of the renal graft artery to the external iliac artery. Endarterectomy of the external iliac vessels was performed in 25 patients to anastomose the renal artery to the external iliac artery, and ilio‐iliac bypass or Y‐graft simultaneous to the transplant was used in two cases (54). Gouny et al.…”

“…In a series of 1553 kidney transplants, 201 (12.9%) recipients required surgical intervention for aorto-iliac atherosclerotic disease (54). Anastomosis of the renal allograft to the hypogastric artery after endarterectomy in 142 (9.1%) of these patients resulted in a one-yr allograft survival of 88% and one-yr patient survival of 93% (54). In another 32 patients, occlusion of the hypogastric artery was an indication for anastomosis of the renal graft artery to the external iliac artery.…”

“…The occurrence of complications depends on the experience of the surgeon and on the anatomical conditions during the procedure. One can often encounter anatomical variations of the transplanted organ and donor vessels (2,6,11,13,16). Data in the literature demonstrate the occurrence of vascular complications in 3-11% (5) of patients.…”
