Long-Term Stable Near-Infrared–Short-Wave-Infrared Photodetector Driven by the Photothermal Effect of Polypyrrole Nanostructures

Abstract: Polypyrrole (PPy) is a conductive polymer and widely applied in different applications owing to its broadband absorption in the UV-visible, near-infrared (NIR) and short-wave-infrared (SWIR) spectrum, excellent conductivity and strong photothermal effect. In this work, we explored for the first time the photothermal effect of polypyrrole nanoparticles (PPy-NPs) in a photothermal-induced detector structure, and developed a new type of air-stable hybrid PPy-NPs/Pt photodetector (PD) with NIR/SWIR sensitivity. “…22,23 An important class of hybrid materials is those in which the organic fractions are composed of conducting polymers such as polyaniline and polypyrrole. 22,23,[25][26][27][28][29][30] Because of its potential uses in photovoltaics, memory devices, gas sensors, and as a crucial component of plastic electronics, polyaniline (PANI) has attracted a lot of interest as a futuristic material. 28,29 Polyaniline exhibits many alluring properties, such as a wide bandgap (2.5 eV), short response time and excellent merits under room-temperature operation.…”

“…28,29 Polyaniline exhibits many alluring properties, such as a wide bandgap (2.5 eV), short response time and excellent merits under room-temperature operation. 30 NZF-conducting polymer based hybrids have been synthesized by various techniques, and the experimental procedure applied fundamentally controls the properties of the resulting material. Variables such as the size and shape of the NZF nanostructures, the degree of dispersion, and the kinds of interaction and interface between the organic and inorganic phases, among others, have a direct influence on properties such as conductivity, piezoresistivity, and photocurrent.…”

“…5 display the time trace response of the PDs to 532 nm laser illumination at a drain voltage of 10 V at an incident power of 10 mW. Rise time (τ on ) is defined as the time taken to increase the current from 10 to 90% of its baseline under laser illumination 23 . The fall time (τ off ) is the time required to reduce the current from 90 to 10% of its baseline 24 .…”
