“…Cattle herders and owners selected to recruit cattle for the study provided the mating history of the herd was used to identify individual animals to be sampled. The average age of mature cattle for this study was estimated to be ve years based on the teeth detention protocols {two PPT 2 years 4 5 years, 6 used by Thrift and Thrift (2003). Based on the information from the owners and government extension o cers, a total of 162 indigenous Angoni animals were sampled for this study, namely in R1 (F = 30, M = 20), R2 (F = 36, M = 26) and R3 (F = 25, M = 25).…”

“…Bos indicus-B. taurus cows are more likely to survive culling due to decreased rates of dystocia and decreased tooth loss at advanced ages (Riley et al, 2001;Thrift and Thrift, 2003). Furthermore, Nellore-sired cows have been shown to maintain udder integrity and to have increased survivability and overall lifetime productivity than other B. indicus-or B. taurus-sired females (Riley et al, 2001).…”

“…Many researchers have reported that integrating Brahman cattle in crossbreeding programs has resulted in good performance, with the crossbreds having good growth, mothering ability and resistance to external environmental conditions (Riley et al, 2012;Mateescu et al, 2020). Utilizing the Brahman breed in crossbreeding has produced favorable results, such as hybrid vigor in reproduction, good survival, a high weaning weight, and longer lifespan compared to purebreds (Thrift and Thrift, 2003). Many countries have included Brahman cattle in crossbreeding programs with local cattle that have resulted in considerably improved performance in growth performace, carcass traits as well as adaptation to a hot climate (Waritthitham et al, 2010;Tessema et al, 2013;Kuswati et al, 2014;Papry et al, 2020).…”
