Los Helados del Norte (The Frozen Ones from the North): Latino Students at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks

Abstract: In Alaska, Latinos represent about 4% of the state's population and have been identified as the second fastest growing minority group in the state. This descriptive study looked at a small sample of Latino students attending the University of Alaska, Fairbanks, where they constituted2% of the student enrollment in 2001. In conclusion, Alaska, generally perceived as having a hostile environment due to its geographic isolation and extreme weather conditions, appears to be a hospitable state for many Latinos.
