Low-Calcination Temperature to Synthesize A-Alumina From Aluminium Waste Can Using Sol-Gel Method

Abstract: Many countries around the world are facing issues in managing solid waste materials; most of these wastes such as aluminium can are deposited to the landfills, leading to environmental pollution. Recycling is considered as an effective technique to manage the aluminium can waste since it can provide benefits in terms of energy savings, reduce volumes of waste and cost-effectiveness. In this article, it was desired to turn the aluminium can waste into α-Alumina using sol-gel method. Alumina exists in many cryst… Show more

“…Another run of heat treatment was carried out at 1200 • C for 1h to inspect the phase change when the calcination temperature rises. The result of this attempt was a highly crystalline Al 2 O 3 (brown top curve), and all the peaks correspond to α-alumina [36,37]. This result confirms that the heat treatment under an air atmosphere is the determining parameter in the crystallinity of Al 2 O 3 .…”

“…It has a large specific surface area about 100 m 2 /g [17,20]. Because of its high surface area, high thermal and chemical stability, and high mechanical power, alumina is commonly used as a catalyst or additive in the industrial sector in many process industries as prior highlighted such as hydrogen processing and petroleum refining [15,21,22]. As a result, this study aimed to synthesise γ-Al2O3 from aluminium waste and investigate the thermal resistance of the synthesised samples at different reaction temperatures using TGA analysis.…”
