Abstract:Soft source decoders, in conjunction with error correcting channel codes, can be used to improve the error resilience of digital communication systems based on variable length codes. In this paper, we present a novel approach to reduce the complexity of maximum a posteriori variable length decoders implemented on a bit-symbol trellis. The decoding algorithm is implemented in a narrow corridor along the trellis diagonal to reduce the decoder complexity. Furthermore, by periodically adjusting the corridor bounda… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
